Sitz Bath Therapy is effective in easing pain caused by hemorrhoids Taking medicines may not always the best treatment for some diseases. Aside from the cost, it may give undesirable effects if taken without supervision from a doctor. There are some treatments and remedies which can be done at the comfort of your home. It may involve simple procedures which you can perform by yourself or a little bit complex which could require additional manpower, equipment or tools. Sitz Bath is an example of home remedies which anybody can do. This therapy is usually recommended to people experiencing pain in the anal area which may be caused by hemorrhoids.

Sitz Baths are also recommended to women who went episiotomy. Episiotomy is an incision made to enlarge the vaginal opening of pregnant women in the late stages of labor to prevent tearing and facilitate the birth. This will help in the faster healing of the wound or cut after the child birth. The method which is also called hydrotherapy is effective in the treatment of swelling in the anus and other conditions in the anal area.

The procedure in taking a sitz bath is not complicated but it may be considered by some as a taxing method. The different steps are easy to follow. However, the repetitions of the procedure could displease the patient. A regular sitz bath should be performed at least several times a day. The duration is between 10 or 15 minutes at a time and should be repeated at least 2 or 4 times a day. For patients suffering from hemorrhoids pain, the repetitions could be increased as long as there is no discomfort on the part of the patient. However, if the patient is experiencing too much pain, it is still wise to see a doctor for proper guidance and diagnosis. Pain in the anal area is not always caused by hemorroids. It could be due to other origins such as colorectal diseases like cancer.

Another factor which may prevent people in doing sitz baths is the necessary tool to complete the therapy. An ordinary basin may be used but it is more comfortable to use a basin suited in a bowl. Ready made basins for sitz bath usually have draining vents to allow excess water to pour directly into the toilet. Bags filled with hot or cold water is also used to give continuous supply of fresh water in the basin. Hospitals do have this kind of kits. If the patient wants to be more relaxed and wants more freedom in movement, the bathtub is used as an alternative. It gives the same effects with the basin.

A footstool may be required if the patient’s feet can not reach the floor. This is needed to lessen the pressure caused by the legs in the sitz bath. Putting salt is sometimes recommended by doctors depending on what type of ailments the patient is experiencing. If you are planning to put salt on the sitz bath, be sure that you don’t have fresh wounds as this may cause irritation.

In the sitz bath method, patient’s recovery varies depending on the health condition and type of ailment. It is effective in easing pain and inflammation caused by hemorrhoids but it is not a cure all for every medical condition in the anal or pelvic area. Always consult your doctor.
