Laxative Properties of Fig Fruit Beneficial In the Treatment of Constipation and Hemorrhoids
Since it promotes health, fig occupies a high position among fruits. It is a pear-shaped hollow fruit that has a sugary pulp and numerous small and golden seeds found on the wall of the cavity. The fig fruit comes in a variety of sizes and color. However, this fruit is sold in markets in dry form because it is highly perishable. Fig is originally found in Asia Minor and spread early to the Mediterranean region.
Fresh figs are known to have a good amount of moisture and little protein, fat and carbohydrate. Dried figs are also high in nutritive value. Many health benefits have been attributed to figs. It is actually considered a restorative food which is very useful for the fast recovery after prolonged illness. It is capable of removing physical and mental exertion and provides the body with renewed vigor and strength. Figs are also considered an excellent tonic for weak people suffering from cracks in the lips, mouth and tongue.
Taken either fresh or dried, figs are very good in fighting constipation. This fruit is regarded as a dependable laxative because of its huge cellulose content and its tough skin. The tiny seeds in the fruit have the property of simulating peristaltic or wave-like movements of the intestines. This way, it can facilitate for the quick and easy evacuation of stool and keeps the alimentary canal clean.
And since figs possess a laxative property, they are also excellent remedy for hemorrhoids. A dry fig can be used to get rid of the problem. Two or three dried figs must be cleaned thoroughly using hot water, then soak them overnight in water. In the morning, it should be taken along with the water in which they were soaked. You have to remember that figs should be the first thing taken in the morning. And in the same manner, they should be taken in the evening before eating. This should be repeated till three to four weeks to guarantee excellent results.
Aside from hemorrhoids, figs are also beneficial in the treatment of asthma. Phlegmatic cases of cough and asthma can be relieved by using this fruit. It will provide comfort to the patient by draining of the phlegm. But before using this fruit, you should first wash the figs thoroughly. The skin of the dry fig being tough, the soaked fig is easy to digest. It is however important to take the water along with the fruit as most of the nutrients come out into the water.
