People should understand that hemorrhoids like the internal one have different stages or grade levels. This is used by doctors as the basis on what kind of treatment they should give to the patient. Just like in other diseases, the approaches or treatment varies at the different levels. Those who are having a mild case, it can be treated with over the counter medications or herbal preparations. Severe cases needs hospitalization and surgery.

Treatment for external hemorrhoids may range from simple and common treatment to surgical excision. The surgery should be carefully done to avoid recurrence and other complications. Your doctor should be able to discuss these options to you if you are advised to undergo surgical removal of your hemorrhoids.

Internal hemorrhoid is more difficult to diagnose. It is usually noticed if the symptoms are already prevalent like when there is blood in stool, pain and irritation in the rectal area. The last stage is the most severe condition of prolapsed hemorrhoids where surgical treatment is already needed. The hemorrhoids can’t be replaced anymore once they become prolapsed. Pain and irritation of the hemorroidal tissues are common. Bleeding may also happen. Treatment of herbal medications or over the counter creams may not cure the hemorrhoids in this stage.
